"Nine companions. So be it. You shall be the Fellowship of the Ring."
Each of the 9 members of the Fellowship of the Ring from the Lord of the Rings is captured here in gouache paint and added to this vintage "family tree" frame. Starting at the top, Frodo is flanked by his Hobbit friends Sam, Pippin, and Merry, with Gandalf shepherding them along. Below, Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, and Boromir look out for danger. I painted these portraits "inspired by" the actors in the film: they are stylized as opposed to screen accurate. Each painting is about 1" in diameter and tucked inside a silver-metal frame, which hangs from a branch of the silver metal tree (Treebeard, perhaps?). The tree stands about 8.5" tall and 8" wide, with a sturdy round base.
The tree and frames are vintage and in good condition for their age. The silver-colored coating has flaked off most loops where they connects to the jump ring that holds the portrait, but it adds to the aged charm and isn't noticed unless you're up close!
