Pinup Ghost "Peek-a-Boo" Layered Painting
Take a peek through a keyhole at a haunted house and you just might spy more than you bargained for!
I took inspiration from vintage pinup illustrations and combined the camp with my love of spooky folklore to create this salacious specter pinup giving you a peek behind the curtain. This original painting is actually several paintings: the top keyhole cutout, a 3D keyhole border, and lastly Madam Boo-tiful showing off from the back of the assemblage.
Painted with gouache paint, the keyhole is painted with a creepy crowd of onlookers, then bordered by skulls, calla lilies, and ghosts. The cut paper rim around the keyhole is painted with graves and even more ghosts—I guess they're dying to get a peek! No wonder: the spooky cutue is au natural, but tastefully covered with a sheet and green heels.
The assemblage is in a reclaimed oak frame with the minor scuffs and scrapes of its vintage charm. I've built out the back of to accommodate the depth of the piece, which is finished with thick kraft paper and has a glue-reinforced sawtooth hanger and hanging dots. The vintage frame glass has light scratches along some edges, which aren't distracting but can be seen from some angles.
Gouache paint on watercolor paper
Hand painted, cut, and assembled by me
Thrifted vintage oak frame and glass; glass and frame have vintage wear
Framed dimensions: 8.5 inches high, 6.5 inches wide, 1.5 inches deep
Display out of bright sunlight, as UV rays will fade gouache pigment over time
