Leather Journal or Deck Box Making

$150.00

A hobbyiest leatherworker, Jason will teach us how to create your choice of either a leather journal holder or a leather box to hold your tarot, Magic, or playing cards. The leather journal holder is perfectly-sized to encase a Field Notes brand-sized notebook (included), and make excellent small grimoires, daily notebooks, and gifts. The box can be customized to fit your deck (please bring for reference), and could also be used to store small trinkets or as a pouch for your Ren Faire costume.

You will learn how to:

  • Select the right type of leather for your project (several colors to choose from)

  • Cut your pieces to size

  • Punch sewing holes and saddle-stitch your pieces together

  • Professionally finish raw leather edges by burnishing

  • Personalize your cover or box with stamped monogram (optional)

Date/Time: Saturday, July 26, 1pm-3pm; please arrive 10-15 minutes early to grab a beverage and meet your fellow classmates

Materials: all materials provided. Each participant who wants to make a notebook cover will receive a Field Notes notebook insert

Bring with you: if you are making a card deck box, please bring your deck for size reference

About the Pentacles suit: In traditional tarot decks, Pentacles correspond to the element of Earth. Pentacles relate to wealth, practicality, and “doing the work”; while the Earth element relates to steadiness, quality craftsmanship, and being “grounded”. This class works with a natural material (leather) and focuses on good-quality craftsmanship.
